Underused Exercises 5

The Turkish Get up.

Kettlebell, Barbell or Dumbell, it doesn't matter. This is a fantastic move to build whole body strength, stability with mobility and balance.
A tip: If your BP or overhead press has stalled, drop the pressing for a couple of weeks and focus in on the TGU. When you go back to the pressing you will be in for a very pleasant surprise!

Hanging Leg raise

How many people do the HLR?? I NEVER see it being performed and it's a shame because this is a number 1 exercise for real ab strength, co-ordination and improved grip. You also get a nice stretch on the spine and increased flexibility.

My New Routine

After the Heavy training of Clean and Jerk with the kettlebells, I have decided to revisit some bodyweight training. Starting with Pushups, i'm going to follow Pavels "Drop and Gimme 100" program for the upper body. After that, i'll focus on a lower body exercise and a pulling movement. See the program outlined below for how it shall be done!

Pushup Routine To do the routine first you have to find out the maximum number of reps you can do in pushups. After finding out your max, you will do a percentage of this number for your workout. Week1 Mon test your max, 30% every 60 minutes Tue 50% every 60 minutes Wed 60% every 45 minutes Thurs 25% every 60 minutes Friday 45% every 30 minutes Saturday 40% every 60 minutes Sunday 20% every 90 minutes Week2 Mon test your max again, 35% every 45 minutes Tue 55% every 20 minutes Wed 30% 15 minutes Thurs 65% every 60 minutes Friday 35% every 45 minutes Saturday 45% every 60 minutes Sunday 25% every 120 minutes Week3 Test max

I'll post my numbers here and let you know how i'm getting on with it. I expect very rapid progress as it's been a while since I did any high rep bodyweight training.

Work hard!

The Floor press

A top exercise to develop starting strength and an awesome tricep builder. I rarely, if ever see anybody doing this in a gym.

Underused exercises 2

The Good Morning.

A supreme hamstring and lower back strengthener that can also help a man or womans squat. Builds strength fast and is ignored all too often. More useful for the glutes than the useless glute machines in lots of Healthclubs aswell.

Underused exercises 1

The Front squat. Great for Athletes and Weekend Warrior alike and a very underrated exercise for the abs and core. If I see 1 in every 20 guys in a commercial facility doing this exercise I'm lucky. Superb when done heavy for low rep multiple sets.

Strong Words

I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what.—Harper Lee, "To Kill a Mockingbird
